A visit to El Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, Cartagena June 16th. 2016
     
The castle seen from the fortifications along the river   Skyscrapers in the back and the old fort in the front   Construction began in 1536 and expandsion in 1657.   Built by the Spanish it was first sacked by the French
 
     
privateer (pirate) Baron de Pointis.   In 1741 an attack by English admiral Edward Vernon   failed. Many tunnels under the fortifications with   small cells that housed the soldiers.
